Importance of the Sabbath

I once had a dear friend express how important it was to take a day of rest. I mean, God did after all.

In these gifts of the week, when hopefully things aren’t planned, magic can manifest. Not long ago, our family rushed out the door with a late decision to commit to church. From there, our day unfolded into ridge line hikes with the pup, the first sun kiss of the year, a meal that tantalized our taste buds, and the chance to be in love as an entire family unit.

As a parent, these opportunities don’t come along all that often. We spend so much time running to multiple obligations in an effort to give our kids a well-rounded life experience. Many of us live for family vacations to spend quality time together instead of building that into our weekly activities. I’m a big fan of having both!

Taking a day of rest where we don’t put anything on the calendar allows magic to unfold. When was the last time you looked at your calendar and saw you weren’t obligated? Don’t you deserve one day a week to not have plans? Doesn’t our world deserve one day a week to be intentionally seen and celebrated?

There is also the gift of daily experiences like the sun hitting your face first thing in the morning, or that first sip of coffee to awaken the nervous system, starting with the eyes and running through the veins covering the entire body. It’s the bumblebee doing its daily task of pollinating or the way honey pours from a jar knowing the sweetness contained in that slow, inimitable pour. Or rain on a roof.

My experience of magical manifesting comes when intention meets freedom. There is an intention to have a magical day, without attachment to what that looks like, and the freedom within and without to allow it to unfold. The magic absolutely lies in the space between, where we’re open enough to let go of outcomes and give time the back seat.

Buckle up baby, life is a journey just waiting for you to sign up.
